Grand Valley Placed Between Cape Town South Africa and Val d’Orcia Italy

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – This may be no surprise to the folks that live in the Grand Valley, that surprise being our unique mountain exploring experience, craft breweries, wineries, along with cider delights you can only find here in the Grand Valley.

And this attention hasn’t gone unnoticed, in fact, our city is being recognized as one of the top ten destinations for wine tourism in 2018 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine.

“This is an incredible honor that Visit Grand Junction has been working towards for some time. A little bit of backstory is that we pitch to a lot of editors, we work with a lot of journalists to get them to come out because earned media is very valuable to our marketing efforts”, says Mistalynn Meyeraan the Marketing & Publications Coordinator for Visit Grand Junction.

So, we decided to drop in on some of the businesses being mentioned to ask them about their thoughts on the wine tourism industry here in Grand Valley.

“It’s very significant when you think about the number of people that come to weddings who have to have meals and hotel rooms if we don’t provide them and you put those calculi together and translate it into the economic impact it’s very significant in the Valley here”, says Bob Witham the Owner of Two Rivers Winery & Chateau.

But, it’s not just wineries that are being mentioned in the top ten article, even Grand Valley ciders have captured the attention of the Wine Enthusiast editors.

“I think it’s been really really exciting for us in year three to get an honorable mention from a magazine that reaches far throughout the U.S”, says Charles Talbott the Sales & Marketing Manager for Talbott Cider Company.

And they believe this top ten article will bring more tourists into the valley because our location is so affordable.

“We’re a very affordable destination, and we do position ourselves as that so we have the quality yet we don’t have the price that typically comes with that being in Colorado. It’s a surprise to a lot of people that they can stretch their dollar here and spend more time here”, says Meyeraan.
