Meet Patric Matysiewski of Sauvage Spectrum in Palisade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patric Matysiewski.

Patric, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been making wine in Colorado for over eight years, and have been in beverage for over ten. I started canning beer for a large brewery in Denver. I was then asked to help apply my alternative packaging experience to wine. I learned Winemaking in Denver and met our grape grower Kaibab at this time.

I’ve been producing wine with his grapes since I started in this industry. After a few other consulting gigs, Kaibab and myself decided to team up to create a new breed of estate wines.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was a natural progression for myself and has helped mend some broken bridges along the way. We are a tight-knit community and we want to see each other succeed. I haven’t been the best person I could be to my past employers and held a grudge against them. When I started hiring employees I realized how difficult it is to keep everyone happy at all times. It taught me humility and gave me the opportunity to be the best person I could be to my staff.

Sauvage Spectrum – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sauvage Spectrum is a 100% estate grown and bottled Colorado winery. We only produce Colorado wines that we grow. 2019 was our first vintage which included sparkling wines, a pet nat, and red and white still wines. We are focusing our momentum on producing sparkling wines, while our other wine ages for bottling. We noticed a demand for affordable sparkling wine and no supply. We are most proud of producing high-quality affordable Colorado wines. Our company is vertically integrated and we have total control at every point. What sets us apart is the value we put in your glass. To offer estate grown and bottled wines at a better price than the competition. Our branding is not typical and caters to the modern sparkling sipper. We are trying to do things that haven’t been done before in this market.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is to have a great work-life balance, a comfortable lifestyle, a happy family, an amazing team, and products you can be proud of. At this point we are measured by sales, therefore we are getting ourselves out there and making new connections. Our first big marker will be selling all of the wine produced in our first vintage.
